Winter is Coming

Winter is really coming when the first frost covers everything. When this frost only lasts couple of hours and is gone by noon as sunshine melts the fine ice crystals.

Autumn

I have always liked autumn for its colourful leaves and that’s exactly the theme of the following photos. Coulourful leaves, still green ones, those that turned yellow or even red, leaves that are still on trees and also those that had fallen to the ground. The last traces of colour before there are only black or dark brown trunks and branches.

These photos were taken in Malesicky Park in Praha while I was looking for geocaches at the end of October.

Poppy Field

There was a red poppy field next to our land and it looked like a red sea. Every single flower from this sea was also beautiful itself. Here are some details of the flowers as well as photos of the whole field. Papaver rhoeas (common names are also common poppy, red poppy, field poppy, corn poppy, corn rose and coquelicot) are quite usually grow next to roads but rarely in fields like this.

Garden Jewels

During past weekend I planned to try out a combination of tele lens and macro extension tubes. With this combination the depth of field is still very shallow but it is not one or two centimeters away from the front lens but comfortable ten to twenty centimeters (approximately) away. And while we were going to our cottage I had great chance to try it out.
Even though the garden seemed to be without flowers all I had to do was to take a closer look and suddenly tha garden was full of colourful flowers. Daisies, speedwells, blue and pink forget-me-not, heather are all tiny flowers that are like jewels hidden in grass.

Here I tried focus stacking technique – focusing on different parts of the main subject and then in post processing combining them together to create image where the main subject is fully focused and the rest is not.

First day of Winter

As most of Prague residents were dealing with unavailable public transport and terrible traffic due to winter weather that came suddenly yesterday evening, not many of them noticed that the ice covered not only roads and rails, but also trees and shrubs. So I grabbed my camera and went out a bit earlier to be able to take some photos on my way to work in the morning.

It would be great if this weather conditions were during weekend. I would have all day to take photos, not only about 15 minutes in the morning. Maybe next time.

Holidays on Madeira (part 1)

At the beginning of June I spent a week on Madeira. The first day after arrival to this beautiful island was supposed to be relaxing so we could rest after whole night travel from Prague to Funchal, which is the capital of Portugal’s Autonomous Region of Madeira. And since Madeira is known as an island of flowers and it shouldn’t have suprised me that we spent most of the first day in two botanical gardens.

In the morning, just after breakfast, I simply had to see the view from the sundeck of our hotel and took few photos, mostly of the northern part of Funchal which looked the most interesting at the moment.
