Late Afternoon in Prague Zoo – Part III

The weather these days is cold and sunny, only few degrees above 0 and that makes perfect conditions to go outside and take some photos. Yesterday, I went to Prague Zoo again, only about two hours before all the visitors would have to leave the zoo. And it was really cool, everything was lit with golden light, especially the exhibits on the southern hillside and there I took most of the photos. All these photos were taken when the sun was just above the horizon and therefore the colours are very warm.

Eurasian Wolf (Canis lupus lupus)

Female Boja is the last member of the wolf pack that lived in Prague Zoo.

Red panda (Ailurus fulgens)

I was very lucky to see red pandas in their outside exhibit as they usually go outside in the early morning hours.

When I was leaving the zoo, I saw these white blooms near the exit. Although it is winter, they looked like they came into bloom recently.

Canon ZOOM 2013

Canon ZOOM is an event hold by Canon CZ and it takes place in zoos in the Czech Republic. The purpuse of this event is to present both new and older photo cameras, lens and also Canon printers in attractive surroundings. Although I don’t use Canon’s products I visit this event almost every year because all the participants can use a opportunity to print some of their photos. Also there is a contest, the five best photos win some prices.

In the morning the weather looked very good, the sun was shining and there were some small clouds on the sky. Later before noon the sky became cloudy but I didn’t mind is as long as it’s not raining. I stayed in the lower part of the zoo and took some photos of the eurasian spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) which was, again, sitting in its nest hidden behing leaves.

Then there were the ruff (Philomachus pugnax):

As the weather was getting colder and I expected rain, I moved closer to the main buildings in the zoo where I would be able to hide from rain. Near those building is exhibit of lemurs. There are ring-tailed lemurs (Lemur catta) and white-headed lemur (Eulemur albifrons) in my photos.

Finally, it did start raining and it rained quite heavily, there was even a storm. It didn’t take very long but after a while I got bored and from the place where I was hidding I took some photos of wild ducks, who apparently didn’t mind the rain.

Afterall, it wasn’t really bad day although it was raining. I took some nice photos and had some of them printed.

Spring in Prague Zoo

Although it is May already, this week’s visit to the Prague Zoo was my first one this year. And now it is time for posting some of the photos I took there.

Rainbow lorikeets (Trichoglossus haematodus) were finally in their outdoor exhibit. I always like to go there, because it is quite big and mainly because the visitors are allowed to go inside, therefore there wasn’t a fence between my camera and the animal. These birds are always very active and fly from one side to the other, but now and then they stop to sit on a branch or on the ground.

Maned wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) also known as a fox on stilts because it looks just like a fox which is walking on stilts.

The West Caucasian tur (Capra caucasica) isn’t considered to be an atractive animal and usually there are no people watching them and therefore this place is really quite. I stayed here for a while and took several photos.

The Squirrel monkeys (Simia sciureus) have their exhibit on an artificial island in the middle of a pond. This pond had been surrounded by dense shrubs but they were removed recently, giving me the opportunity to take photos of these monkeys from diferent point of view.
